Wake up your inner screen siren: we talk to make-up queen Ruby Rose Make-up artist Ruby Rose has made it her personal mission to bring back screen siren glam by giving vintage make-up and hairstyle tutorials all over the UK and Ireland. Lucky us then that Ruby has taken some time out of her very hectic schedule to give QueensOfVintage.com some great tips on how to add a hint of vintage to everyday looks, what must-have products we should have at home and how to add some extra vintage glam to our Christmas look. QueensOfVintage: You run vintage hair and make-up tutorials. How do they work?I run two workshops, one on 1920s and 30s hair and make-up and one on 1940s and 50s looks. Each workshop has about 12 to 15 attendees. It’s usually a good mix of people, some have no idea about vintage hair or never wear make-up, others might be burlesque performers or WW2 re-enactors. In the workshops I show them how to create vintage looks with modern tools. Ruby: QoV: You must be really into the vintage look yourself then! Ruby: I’m afraid I’m the vintage hair and make-up version of a train-spotter. I live, breath and sleep the look and would never leave the house without a vintage do and at the very least a slick of mascara and red lipstick. Some might not agree with me here, but the easiest way for a lazy vintage look is heated curlers. When my alarm goes off in the morning, I lean over and pop them on and relax for 10 minutes while they heat up. Then I whip in the curlers and while I have breakfast and a shower, they work their magic. Once you get into the swing of things it shouldn’t take more than 10-15 minutes. 2 Responses Regina February 12th, 2009 I am very surprised you have not interviewed the first and original vintage hair and makeup salon in London, founded back in 2005 by Nina.
