Viva Las Vegas, which is taking place next month from 14 – 17 April, is the world’s largest Rockabilly festival. And yes as you might expect, it’s one hell of a party.

Held at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Vegas, the festival features 75 live bands, countless DJs, North America’s biggest pre-60s car show full of hot rods, Tiki pool parties, burlesque shows, a tattoo lounge and even on-site weddings!

If you’ve never been before, here are some quick tips for Viva Newbies:

The Hotel
The Orleans is off the Strip but don’t let this disappoint you. The rooms are all mini suits with separate seating areas and big en-suite bathrooms, plus you won’t be spending much time there anyways. As is standard for a big hotel casino, there are plenty of food places to choose from, 15 to be precise, from the a la cart Canal Street to sandwich chains like Subway. At check-in you’ll get a little booklet full of discount vouchers for food places and on-site shops as well as the hotel spa, don’t forget to redeem them!

Gambling
If you’ve never gambled before, you might want to practice online before you go, so give an all slots online casino a go for example. The Orleans itself has over 3,000 slots machines and all of the expected table games, plus a 35 table poker room.  You could sign up to a B Connected players card for extra games and things like discounts in restaurants.

Shopping
If you’re mainly going for the shopping experience, go early. As in queue before the stalls open. The best vintage items get snapped up straight away so being there early is well worth it. Also, make sure you have plenty of cash on you as not all sellers hold back items so you won’t have the chance to nip out and go to the cash point.

The weather
Especially if you’re heading to Vegas from the cold and rainy UK, it’s easy to forget that Vegas will be hot and sunny. Sun cream with a high UV factor is an absolute must, especially for outdoors events like the pool party and the car show. Seasoned Viva attendees also bring a parasol to shield themselves from the desert sun. Don’t worry if you don’t have one, you can buy one there.
