Tried & Tested: Vintage Shops in East & South London
Radio Days
Lower Marsh, SE1
This little den of vintage is in one of the cutest streets in South London. Lower Marsh, just off The Cut and close to The Old Vic. Well worth the trip across the river, Radio Days goes beyond mere vintage clothes, and does a mean line in 1930s barware, old-school Barbie-pink dial-up telephones and stacks of well-preserved retro mags.
Walk past the cabinets full of glittering gem broaches and delicate compact mirrors at the front desk, and you’ll be rewarded with a back room chock full of fantastic dresses, coats and feather boas, with two huge boxes of sale items to rummage through for silk scarves and random Christmas-print dresses.
Bring your fella too; there’s a little room just for him, filled with Paddington Bear overcoats and detective-style trenches. Prices are fair, with dresses from around £40 in perfect condition and the odd bargain to be found with a little patience.
They also stock gloriously girly vintage lingerie, with pale pink bullet bras, Mary Quant tights and wisp-delicate seamed stockings still in their original packets.
