Reading vintage shopping guide
By Lena on August 16, 2009
At first look Reading seems like a typical high-street-led town, but look past the main shopping centre to the back streets and alleyways and you’ll find an offbeat vintage scene. Fuelled by the lively music and arts culture scene of Reading, the number of vintage shops is slowly growing, you just need to know where to look. Jessica Gibb has a guide to the best vintage shops in town.
This gorgeous antique shop is overflowing with all the furniture, trinkets and teacups you need to make your vintage palace shine. But head upstairs where there are two rooms dedicated to vintage clothing and accessories for the real treasure trove. The store specialises in evening dresses and has beautiful investment pieces spanning the decades from Forties beaded gowns to Eighties taffeta party dresses. The rooms also have an impressive array of reasonably priced vintage accessories including lace gloves and a wide selection of hats.

Vintage & Retro section, Cancer Research UK charity shop
Charity shops have long been a vintage goldmine, but this shop is taking this practice to a whole new level with its sizeable ‘Vintage & Retro’ section. It is the only location in the area trying the new scheme so you can expect to find vintage items from a sizeable chunk of Berkshire’s donations.
Perfect for a good old-fashioned rummage, the vintage items are priced only just higher than the rest of the store ranging from £3-£20. You have to be quick to bag the best vintage, but with new items added daily, you’re bound to find something you love amongst the eclectic rails.
