Reader style challenge: vintage wedding veils
Last week we helped reader Bhavin to find a Forties hat for his girl. This week Olenka wrote to us, in urgent need of a vintage wedding veil. Could we help? Of course we can! Lauren Cooke finds some of the best veils available.
Lauren writes: Reader Olenka wrote in for some vintage style help: “Hi, I’ve got a challenge for you. I am getting married this summer and want to wear a vintage veil; no idea what’s out there or what style I want, can you help?” Sure Olenka, I hope I’ve found the right veil for you.
Veils have been used in weddings for centuries. Aside from various religious and class-based connotations, veils are a beautiful fashion accessory, lending a certain degree of mystery and implied beauty to an already blushing bride. A vintage veil, as well as giving you that something old, is a lovely choice and brings history and classic beauty to your special day.
The main problem for me is narrowing down the huge variety of veils that are on the market. However, I managed to search through the various websites to find the best wedding veil choices. Most of my examples have come through the ever brilliant Etsy. Also, there is a huge vintage scene in the US, so I think with a specialist area like this, it’s best to venture across the ocean, and pay the extra postage.
Most of my selection here is white, but remember that coloured veils are a real option too. If you want colour, but your favourite veil is white, a guide to dying nylon can be found here. If you don’t want to risk ruining your perfect veil, get a professional to do it.
