Reader style challenge: find me a Forties hat
The final hat is much easier to wear, in a soft and immensely flattering beret style shape. It’s got a cute bow and will go with pretty much any style. Whilst the purple hat pretty much begs for a Forties suit, this one can cross vintage decades easily. It’s soft and beaded, even the velvet bow is beaded, and I can’t help but love it! A bargain at £20.
Hopefully you’ll find a hat here you think your girlfriend will like. But if you want a simpler Forties style, have a look in your local charity shops, they are always veritable treasure troves of Forties hats.
Simply keep an eye out for felt hats in muted colours, small and neat with a flared off-the-face rim, or even a soft trilby. Netting usually means Forties too, either that or Eighties. If it’s over the top it’s no doubt Eighties!
My final hint is to google “snood”, if your girlfriend is really into the Forties, a snood hair covering would be a great extra gift!
