P8230071QoV: Is your whole family vintage?

Candice DeVille: My mother is a big Art Deco aficionado and lives in a beautiful 1929 Californian style bungalow. Other than that though, my husband and children have no interest in vintage, but are very supportive of what I do. One of my girls often complains about me buying “old” stuff all the time, but I’m educating her.

QoV: What is the vintage scene like in Australia?

Candice DeVille: The vintage scene in Australia is very strong.  Both from the more stylised Rockabilly scene, through to the vintage purists. Even though we are a young country, there is a great respect for history here, and especially within the vintage clothing and furniture market, people take it quite seriously. While there is a very strong market for “average vintage” (Seventies  polyester for example), there are some serious collectors. I have a few friends with collections that museums would give their right arms for!

I’m very grateful for the interest in vintage here in Australia as it has given me an entirely new career. As well as writing the blog I also work as a specialist vintage model. I do everything from photographic work through to catwalk and old school salon shows. This has to be one of the biggest thrills as I get the opportunity to wear garments that otherwise would only be seen behind glass in a museum case.

Perfect Vintage looks. Congratulation and thanks for sharing your tips. My love is Vintage hats, but, find them difficult to position. Perhaps, I wash my hair too often. Will try leaving it for a few days at a time. Oh, how I wish I could look like you.!

Candice dahling you look divine and whomever criticized your lovely vintage look was obviously quite jealous of you. It takes courage to dress as an elegant lady these days and your children will benefit from the glamour you bring into our increasingly drab, unisex, ugly blue jeans, flip flops and baseball cap world.
