On the vintage trail in Melbourne
Shopping at Savers is like shopping at a department store, except it’s all second hand. The ultimate thrift shopping spree: grab a trolley scout the aisles for adult and children’s clothing, shoes, accessories, books, toys, furniture and homewares. While it can take a bit of digging about to separate the trash from the treasure, there are some true gems to be found.
Victoria is the only Australian state lucky enough to have six of the self-proclaimed recycle superstores, which has alliances with a network of local not-for-profits and offers students a 20% discount on Sundays.
Hunter Gatherer
Hunter Gatherer has Melbourne’s best sides covered, with a beachside store in the city’s south and another on the edgier grimes of the north. Run by not-for-profit organisation The Brotherhood of St Laurence, the stores feature an eclectic range of hand-selected vintage pieces, locally made designer goods and accessories and its own in-house vintage-inspired range for men and women.
Hunter Gatherer is an accredited No Sweatshop retailer with all profits going towards community projects to help the local disadvantaged.

Vintage chemical glassware, medical and surgical equipment, maps, antique cameras, railway signalling equipment and ex-industrial furniture sourced from hospitals, schools and classrooms are amongst the vintage curios and collectibles you’ll find at Industria.
Stark, industrial and offbeat are the order of the day here, there’s also a small selection of vintage clothing, jewellery and accessories. Well worth a visit for the fascination factor alone.

Gertrude Street
Industria is not the only store worth visiting on Gertrude Street. While you’re in the neighbourhood be sure to pop into Moustache (124 Gertrude Street), a super sweet vintage store whose unassuming shop front hides a boutique bursting with cool recycled clothes, shoes and accessories sourced locally and overseas by its stylish owner/buyer.
Lovers of ladylike vintage will appreciate Circa (102 Gertrude Street) which specialises in men’s and women’s clothes and accessories from the Victorian era through to the seventies; and Curve (158 Gertrude Street) for some delightful high quality recycled threads and accessories.

It’s a pity you’ve not included a photograph of Circa’s beautiful shop. It really is a total vintage lovers delight and my favourite amongst the ones you’ve chosen here.
