Newly launched: Fraubraun Vintage Fashion
Lena: Your shop, www.fraubraun.com, has a really modern feel. How come?
Stefanie: I work as a curator for the Photographer’s Gallery in London. Graphic design and photography are real passions of mine. I really wanted to have a stylish shop that would reflect my love for design and at the same time showcase real women, not models. It was important for me to emphasize the uniqueness of each piece and make it accessible for anyone interested in fashion, including those who might not know much about vintage.
I asked all my friends to come round my house and bring along their friends. They then got dressed up in the clothes I wanted to sell and took their own pictures using a cable release. It really shows that everyone is unique and different, just like vintage.
Lena: You are also planning to hold selling events in the UK and Germany?
Stefanie: Yeah, I’d like to have two or three events per year where people can try on my stock and take their own pictures.
Lena: Do you wear vintage every day?
Stefanie: Not everyday, but more and more so. The only clothes I feel really feminine in are vintage. To me it’s all about celebrating your curves and womanly shape. I only discovered the joys of wearing pink and pastels through wearing vintage clothes for example.
Lena: So what’s your favourite vintage item?
Stefanie: I’ve got this amazing black and white Forties jacket (see picture). It’s got a fantastic cut, really tailored to the waist with big shoulder pads. I’ve had it for years and still love wearing it.
Lena: What’s your vintage top tip?
Stefanie: Definitely head to the Rivoli Ballroom in Lewisham, London. It’s the only intact Fifties ballroom in London. I love their jive parties!
