Brixton Village, a shopping arcade just behind Brixton tube station has had a complete make-over in recent months, attracting cafes, bars, independent boutiques and some seriously good vintage shops. The place still retains its ethnic charm with little houseware stalls tucked in next to African textile shops and fishmongers, which makes taking a stroll all the more enjoyable. There’s some seriously good vintage to be found here too:

Take a peak at Brixton Cornercopia (pictured left), a little deli which also sells vintage and classic enamel homewares, little soaps in Victorian packaging and hand-knitted tea cosies.

Definitely head to Rejuvenate (pictured below). Owner Dujhan clearly has a great eye for fab womens and menswear, kids toys, accessories as well as the odd home deco items – prices are excellent too, you can get a Fifties day dress from as little as £25.

Another highlight has got to be 2’6 (pictured below left) just on the corner. It’s a mid-century paradise with an amazing selection of furniture, lighting and all sort of kitchenalia from the Fifties to the Seventies.

The shop also has a fab rail of menswear stretching from pre-war tweed jackets to mint condition Seventies trousers. Prices are reasonable.

Do head into Saloon, although the shop mainly features modern designs, there is a rail full of hand-selected vintage womenswear, think gothic Forties mourning dresses and wonderful Seventies Jean Varon maxis at very reasonable prices.

Don’t forget to check out Brixi too, which again mainly stocks modern home deco but also some great vintage bits and bobs such as cushions and old Seventies milk bottles.

If vintage china is your thing, you will love Collectibles (pictured below), which is full of amazing tea sets and tableware from the Twenties to the Eighties and features a very cool pick’n’mix section for tea cups and saucers.

Last but not least, take a peak at Leftovers (pictured right), which specialises in lace and incredible Victoriana and pre-Fifties clothing – imagine little boxes filled with gloves, Victorian blouses and Thirties blouses. Sadly the best pieces are hung high up on the ceiling, making it impossible to browse them properly.
