rock-a-hula-15june09-136Get ready for a night of rock ‘n’ roll, hula hooping, and swing dancing. On Friday, 18 September, vintage bowling venue Bloomsbury Bowling in London will play host to a Hawaiian oasis of Honolulu, grass skirts, Hawaiian shirts and pin up bathing beauties in this Fifties beach party.

Sporting matching sunset outfits complete with Elvis shades, will be the twang-tastic bunch of four brothers The Bikini Beach Band, who have caused a storm at many a Big Chill Festival with their tropical tunes and colourful clothes. Joining the brothers across the two floors of the venue will be live band Jessie & The Orbits providing the cream of rockabilly and rhythm and blues.

Incredible hula hoop performer Pippa The Ripper, resident DJs El Nino (of Black Cotton & Lady Luck Fame) and Tim Hellzapoppin’ will be there to ensure you hula ‘til you drop with the pick of the best vintage rock ‘n’ roll from the Twenties to the Sixties.

Nina’s Hair Parlour – the UK’s first vintage hair and make-up specialists – will set up shop offering luxurious makeovers, giving ladies 15 minutes in pamper heaven, to emerge as glamorous Hollywood starlets of the Fifties.

Guests can also pay a visit to the Hawaiian photo booth complete with a Hawaiian dressing up box, beach backdrop and beach accessories for a fantastically fun photo. Lessons in hula-hooping and swing dancing will be on offer, and competitive types can join the hoop-off.

For those that need to take a break from swinging, jiving, hooping and rocking, there’ll be a screening to Blue Hawaii in the cinema, with ice-cream from gorgeous walkabout vendors in Fifties get-up. To complete this tiki-tidal wave of flowers, deckchairs, palm-trees and flamingos, party-goers are encouraged to dress up:  it’s Elvis in Hawaii and Johnny Cash on Holiday!
