The moulded plastic furniture in iconic white and red was Eero Saarinen’s most famous work for American design company Knoll. The futuristic curves, combined with modern materials such as fibreglass, made for a product that was considered space-age in Fifties America.

More than just appearing sleekly innovative, Saarinen set out to create something which made a clearer and tidier, modernist statement about furniture, typified with his chair that had a simple base and no unnecessary, messy legs.
