Cover girls: style inspiration from vintage LP covers

best-of-blondiePerhaps one of the last LP leading ladies, Debbie Harry’s New York cool captivated with its disco meets dive bar sensibilities. Her habit of wearing a rebelliously short (almost tushy-baring) man’s tee, artfully slashed to drop over her collarbones is an incendiary rock look.

Most thrift store emporiums are laden with such tees. Simply put the collar over your bended knee, and pull upwards with most of your might to stretch the neck hole and bare the beauty of shoulders. The ubiquitous natty white poplin dress Blondie wears on albums Parallel Lines and the Best of Blondie is fairly unremarkable and easily uncovered, but there is more than a look here.

Teamed with a slice of the hem hacked off the bottom, and wound insouciantly around the upper arm, it demarcates Blondie as leader of the pack. Or LP. Whatever. An angel with attitude.

  1. Just got my turntable fixed and am having a great time not just listening to my old records…but drooling over the covers. Everything from the 1940s-1980s. Alot of great inspirational outfits on those covers!
