Can you remember the moment you fell in love with vintage? Can you remember a specific moment that signifies the point you really fell in love with vintage? Or perhaps there were many occasions that got you interested in vintage? Or maybe your interest is the culmination of many varied influences? For me there are lots of different bits that contributed to my own interest in vintage, such as spending a lot of time at my grandparents’ house which hadn’t been redecorated since the Fifties. To this day I have a deep fondness of kidney tables cause it reminds me of sitting in my nan’s living room. The same grandparents also had a print of Otto Dix’s painting ‘Grossstadt’ which depicts Berlin life in the Twenties and features an amazing scene in a jazz club that I found utterly fascinating as a child. I blame my love of Art Deco and red hair entirely on this very painting. The most important moment however was perhaps when I fell in love with the Beatles aged 13 when I accidentally ended up watching ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ on TV. Of course I knew who the Beatles were before, but seeing them on screen and seeing them perform launched my very own Beatlemania and subsequent obsession with the Sixties and early Seventies that is still going strong today. How and when did you fall in love with vintage? I’d love to hear your story! 9 Responses eveline August 29th, 2013 What a lovely story 🙂 I fell in love with the twenties and thirties when I heard a song from Billie Holyday for the first time when I was only 9 years old, when I saw the movie ‘some like it hot’ when I was 17 I decided to wear vintage every day! Reply Sarah August 29th, 2013 I just love hearing about how other people got into vintage. My parents have always had classic cars so growing up I was always being dragged along to shows but it wasn’t until my dad bought me a classic Mini that I fell in love with vintage. It just so happened that at that time I was starting to get into the music from the 60s and the whole Mod thing and my obssession with the sixties just progressed from there! Reply Esther August 29th, 2013 I was five years old and watching a Second World War docu-drama programme in class at school! That was it for me! awwww! My dad always says that I need to be regressed….. 🙂 Reply Louise August 29th, 2013 I fell in love with vintage because I am a huge fan of Grace Kelly. I wanted a dress like one of her’s from the 1950s and couldn’t find anything similar that was new so I bought a vintage dress and was blown away by the quality. I was hooked! Reply Davita August 29th, 2013 I was about 7 or 8 years old when I first fell in love with Vintage. The worst thing is that it came about from watching Grease, which you would call “reproduction” at best. My mum had always loved vintage herself, but when she introduced me to Grease I was fascinated by Olivia Newton John’s twinset, poodle skirt and hairstyle (and I tried to copy her hair style, in a very immature way for years). It wasn’t until much later that I embraced it truly and learnt what was repro, retro and Authentic vintage. Reply The Lotusfairie August 29th, 2013 When I saw Lorraine’s peach dress for the Enchantment Under the Sea dance in Back to the Future! Reply Lena August 29th, 2013 Yes! Back to the Future was definitely a film that made me realise how much I love past fashion and designs! Reply CherryT August 29th, 2013 For me it was when I really embraced the rockabilly scene at the age of 15! Reply Lena August 30th, 2013 Thanks for sharing your stories – I loved reading them!x Reply Leave a Reply Cancel Reply Your email address will not be published.CommentName* Email* Website Notify me of follow-up comments by email.
