Alexa Chung, Rachel Bilson and Fearne Cotton: steal their vintage style
Then there’s Rachel Bilson, who rivals Cheryl Cole in my girl-crush stakes. But if I could raid one celebrity’s wardrobe, it would be Miss Bilson’s. Thanks to her, my wardrobe is now heaving under the strain of little shift, tea and sun dresses, unusual cropped jackets, vintage bags and belts, thick black tights and vintage earrings. Her vintage strappy dresses and perfect high waisted skirts teamed with Zac Posen bags and YSL heels are winning combinations.
She was pictured recently wearing a vintage dusty pink skirt, oversized black T shirt and a cropped vintage denim jacket with her trademark black tights and long leather boots. When she goes shopping she throws on a puff-sleeved top tucked into vintage Levi cut offs and a vintage American Eagle belt, casual flip flops and Ray Ban Wayfarers or a black oversized smock dress, cream boyfriend cardigan, black tights and vintage tan Peter Pan ankle boots. It’s this combination of girly fabrics and patterns with striking vintage gems which makes her style so desirable.
Rachel Bilson never looks like she dresses for male attention and this is perhaps what I love most about her. In the midst of LA plastic surgery and perma tans there’s something unbelievably cute about her little patterned floral sun dress accessorised with a slouchy vintage across the body bag and black pumps. I recently bought a gorgeous vintage shift dress with large sleeves and orange and pink floral pattern which I teamed with white tights and tan leather vintage-look shoes. Staring in the mirror I smiled at my Bilson-esque ensemble, managing to off-set the doll like tights and flat shoes with styled hair and make-up.
Even on the red carpet, Bilson succeeds in retaining her modesty wearing either a vintage Chanel satin high necked teal dress worn with canary yellow accessories or a one shoulder powder blue dress teamed with a stunning vintage black clutch. Her coalescence of chic, childlike, cute and stunning is as mis-matched as her vintage dresses teamed with Chanel handbags and it is for this reason that she’s the epitome of a fine vintage dresser.
