A classic Sailor Jerry tattoo: now tatts what I call vintage

Most tattoo artists will work with you to create an unique adaptation based on an original Sailor Jerry, and a good place to find some of those is the man’s rather slick website, sailorjerry.com.

Glover recommends that when going for a tattoo, you should make sure you feel comfortable with the artist, who should be friendly, helpful and registered to practise. “Look at their portfolio – and make sure it contains original photos of their own work and that they’re not showing you photocopies of someone else’s work,” he says. “Cheap isn’t always best, but you shouldn’t have to pay through the nose for a design either,” he adds.

Finally, make sure you’re completely happy with the design before going ahead, he advises “as it’s going to be there for a long time”. No kidding!
