5 key pieces for a 40s Mexican look Although a Sixties and Seventies lover at heart, the Forties Mexicana look is one of my favourite vintage styles. Here are five key pieces, all available to buy right now, to recreate that Forties Mexican “del Rio” look. 1) Del Rio dress by Trashy Diva (£105) Trashy Diva’s brand new Del Rio Dress with its Mexican-inspired floral embroidery and bright yellow fabric is perfect for a Forties Mexican look. The bodice has gathering below the top stitched shoulders and at the underbust line and features short gathered sleeves. The dress is complete with a full gathered skirt and pockets. We want! 2) Red mules by Miss L Fire (£65.99) These red mules are not for the faint hearted with their 9cm heels. But, if you can master the height, these red wonders will be the perfect shoe for a Forties-inspired Mexicana look. 3) Hair flowers by Pinup Clothing ($21) Hair flowers are a big part of the Mexican look – think Frida Kahlo. This flower headband is a great way of adding a real Latin feel to your Forties look. 4) Peasant top by Vivien of Holloway (£28) Based on an authentic late Forties, early Fifties design, this cotton gypsy top comes in a variety of colours, prints and trims. With a fitted waist to showcase your curves, you can either wear it high up for a demure look or off-the-shoulder for maximum va-va-voom. 5) Dancing skirt by Tara Starlet (£65) If you’re after a skirt to wear your gypsy top with, look no further. This side-panel skirt has a great Forties look and comes in bright colours perfect for a Latino feel. 2 Responses Margaret August 21st, 2013 Love all of these. I’m so going for this look next.
